What kind of school is Classical Academy de Lafayette?
Classical Academy de Lafayette provides a rigorous academic program for families seeking a world-class education based on a classical liberal arts curriculum and an emphasis on character education.
Classical Academy de Lafayette (CAL) is a classical private school serving K-9 in the 2019-20 academic year and will grow to K-12 by 2023. The curriculum in the elementary school consists in explicit phonics in spelling and reading; grammar via diagramming; classical literature, history, and science; Singapore math; and rudimentary Latin. Latin is studied beginning in third grade and continues through middle and high school. The reading of great books informed by Socratic discussion commences in the elementary school. The upper-school curriculum centers on the reading and discussion of great books in literature and primary sources in history and on into a thorough understanding of both the facts and the concepts in mathematics and the sciences. The study of art and music is included K-9. To graduate, all seniors must write a senior thesis and deliver and defend it orally in front of their fellow students, members of the faculty, and the principal.
Teachers are hired based upon their mastery of academic disciplines and the ability to convey knowledge to young people. They should also have the ability and desire to shape the character of youth through an explicit teaching of the moral virtues. Certification is neither required nor preferred. We are dedicated to classical education and promoting superior educational results. We are supported by Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, Michigan. Interested candidates should send a curriculum vitae, a letter of interest, a brief essay on their philosophy of education (circa 500 words) and copies of college transcripts to firstname.lastname@example.org. Unofficial transcripts will do initially. Questions should also be addressed to the principal, Mrs. Katy McKinney, at email@example.com. Candidates must both understand and support the mission and philosophy of classical education and of CAL.
CAL students receive an excellent classical education through a rigorous, content-rich, liberal arts program while cultivating in them a virtuous character.
